HE IS A LETHAL WEAPON…
One of an army of human soldiers injected with alien DNA, Michael is a legend within this new race, split between good and evil. Untamable, he has walked on the dark side and returned to the light. Feared and misunderstood, he leaves everything behind, including the one woman destined to be his mate.
HE IS HER ENEMY…AND HER DESTINY…
Fate leads Michael back to Cassandra Powell, for she holds the key to defending his comrades. With their loyalties divided between duty and the people they love, only together can Cassandra and Michael overcome insurmountable odds to save humanity from the wrath of a madman.
But no ordinary woman can control a creature such as Michael, and only one thing is clear—the world will never be the same…

Crystal's Thoughts:

I read The Storm That Is Sterling (Zodius #2) first before reading The Legend of Michael and really liked it so I wanted to go back and read the beginning of the Renegades.

Though I thought that The Legend of Michael was a good book with an interesting story as well as a fabulous introduction to the series, I found the romance between the two main characters, Michael and Cassandra, lacking. The reason being that the first half of the book and 3 years of the couples relationship, including the very important start, was not there. The couple meets, have a few dinners, four weeks pass, the couple succumbs to passion (which was well-written and smoking hot) but then six months pass after that. We missed the whole beginning and 'love's first bloom' phase. Then the couple is separated for two and a half years until meeting up once again. I was not able to fully connect with the characters emotionally as much as I would have liked because of this.

The second half of the book gets better and I'm glad I stuck with it. The building of the GTECH's world was intriguing as well as the break into two (or maybe three?) factions- The Renegades (good guys) and the Zodius (bad guys). The GTECH's are soldiers who thought that they were being routinely vaccinated only to end up injected with an alien DNA and turned super-human. With super strength, speed and the ability to wind-walk they are the ultimate soldiers; and some even have extra abilities like communicating with animals. General Powell runs this top secret military operation and though his intentions are good in the beginning, power sometimes corrupts.

Michael is a male who is no longer a man; dark and deadly even he no longer knows what he is. Cassandra is a woman of high morals and a sense of doing right, even if that means going against those she loves most. When their agenda's collide and they no longer know who to trust, will love be enough to see them through?
