Lexi's Thoughts:
The chance to marry for love was not a common occurrence in Regency England. So not too much of a surprise that Amelia and Jake found love but were unable to marry. Why you may say, those reasons are fun to discover in Lady Amelia’s Mess and a Half.
The hero and heroine, Amelia and Jake, are nice average people. Nothing too exceptional about them, what is intriguing is their circumstances and how the people around them affect that. Like what or who kept them apart when they were young and in love, or where they find answers and help when they get stuck in a mess of their own. Though fun to read about their characters do not grab you and make you fall in love with them. And you might spend most of the book waiting to see where the whole mess part comes into play. The end of the book has the most action, if that could have held through more of the book it might have been more enjoyable.
One character that stole the show were Amelia’s fellow widow and best friend Bibi. She likes her widow status and makes sure that doesn’t stop her from having fun and living life the way she wants to. You will feel her pain as the stuck up ladies of the ton cut her with their remarks. And when she meets a man that may not be the most physically attractive option but melts her heart and makes her believe in love you will be rooting for her. If only Bibi was a more prominent part in the story.
Lady Amelia’s Mess and a Half was enjoyable, mostly at the end and during Bibi’s entrances. It will be interesting to see what Samantha Grace comes up with next, maybe the next characters will steal our hearts as much as the naughty widow.
